It’s Christmas Time in Ft. Myers…

Christmas was a little different this year.

Instead of having family over at our house, we went to see our families in Sarasota and Ft. Myers instead! Last Sunday we celebrated Christmas with my dad’s side of the family in Sarasota. On Monday we drove down to Ft. Myers to spend Christmas Eve with my mom’s side of the family. I drove with Morgan and Geoff and we met our dad at our hotel, The Pink Shell, just before the sunset. In a flash we changed into shorts and walked to the beach to catch the last light of the day.

The air was humid and warm, you know, typical Christmas weather. Although I miss cold and snowy winters, I also appreciate the mild beauty of Florida winters. It feels like home.

As the sun slipped under the horizon I had a brilliant idea. I ordered Morgan to start leaping along the beach, hoping to capture a beautiful silhouette against the colorful sky. You know how much we love to jump. What happened next was truly spectacular.

Inspiring. Of course I had to give it a go.

But the light was already too far gone to allow the camera to capture a true silhouette. Instead all we got was a big blur. I resigned myself to just watch the sunset instead.

Later, Peter, Taylor and my mom arrived and we met my aunt and uncle for dinner. The next day we slept in and hung out on the beach before Christmas Eve dinner at 4pm. It was a little overcast and cold so we ended up playing 2 hours of beach volleyball with another family. We played 6-on-6 and had so much fun! I loved it! It was the perfect pre-Christmas dinner activity and I was perfectly sore and exhausted.

The Jantschek Christmas Eve dinner was as ridiculous, loud and fun as always. I took a lot of great pictures on my aunt’s camera so I don’t have them yet.On Christmas morning we drove home, eager to open the rest of our presents and have another delicious meal.

More Christmas photos to come!
